Research
Song 's research extends the two-generation paradigm in sociological studies to three and more generations, examining the potential roles of parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, relatives in kin networks, and even more remote ancestors in influencing the status outcomes of their descendants. Her ongoing work uses historical and contemporary archival sources, family genealogies, longitudinal and retrospective surveys, inscriptions, oral histories, and linked administrative registers from various populations to illustrate the persistence of social inequality across generations, even in the face of dramatic demographic and institutional changes.
